Freeeee

from school!

Today is officially the first day of the two-week holiday! It finally dawned on me that I don't have to drag myself out of bed next Monday and somehow get ready and get into Mum's car.. Sometimes I only really wake up when I stuff a slice of bread into my mouth as my everyday breakfast. The sad thing is, I only ever eat that bread in the car with my iPod on and my hair a mess. Traffic jams are the worst in the mornings. And Malaysians seem to only lose their driving abilities (if any) even more (if possible) in the mornings.

Right so aaaanyway

Yesterday, my school held a Teacher's Day celebration and it was actually really fun. Most probably the most fun it has ever been. There were students playing football with other students and the teachers I think... And there were mini-games for the teachers as well, while us students just stared at them having a ball (haha there literally was a ball they were playing with) and a whale of a time (sadly, there were no whales present).

Anyway, that was all before recess. After recess was the time for everybody to bundle up in the hall and watch videos and performances. That was great fun!

L-R : Me, Shaz, Tash

Nabila, Tash, Shaz, Adam and I waiting for Adam's "A Teacher's Day" video

We waited for a long time for the video to actually be played, since some of the teachers weren't in the hall yet, and Adam was really nervous but we comforted him in saying that his teaser-videos were really great, and that the real one was gonna be super-great. And it really was super-great!

Kudos to Adam, Arief and Aziza for directing, and the co-directors as well!
Talented bunch.

Oh and us 5 Jatians got our class jerseys that we ordered from Sushil!

Why Reading Is My Favourite Thing To Do

(besides eating and sleeping)

Me with The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

I like reading. I like it so much I'm dedicating this whole post to the topic of reading. Why? I guess I really like it because it sorta makes me feel like I've just stepped into a whole new world when I start reading, and I know this is a clichéd answer but just because it's clichéd, doesn't mean it isn't true.

And also probably because life gets a little bit tedious after some time, I'm not saying it's not exciting and fun, but sometimes I just need to get away, and I get to do that when I'm reading. Oh and you also get away with 'not hearing' others when they try to make conversations with you when you're reading.

When I read, I feel like all that matters is in the book, and everything else -- reality, doesn't have to matter at that point. Like I don't need 'yesterday' for all my problems to seem so far away, hahaha get it

I'm also very fascinated with words, so books are just lovely to me. I love the fact that every book that I've ever read is just a combination of 26 letters of the alphabet, because I've only ever read Malay and English books, the only languages I know (sadly). Languages are interesting to me, too, so I'm gonna learn as many as I can. I know several words of other languages though, like 'asadun' is lion in Arabic, and 'fromage' is cheese in French.

I like everything about books. I like the feel of the paper, the sight of all the pages filled with font, paperback covers and hard-covers, how I feel like I could connect with the author when I read their work. I especially love the smell of books.

My friends and I were talking about classics the other day, and I remembered my sister bought The Picture of Dorian Gray last year and she still hasn't finished it. So now I'm borrowing it and I already love it. Mostly because of how strange the author was. He fascinates me.

Here are some quotes from Oscar Wilde that I like :

"Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much."
       Oscar Wilde

"I am not young enough to know everything."
       Oscar Wilde

"If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you."
       Oscar Wilde

"Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth."

Mid-terms are over

so I'm really happy!

I did a triumphant happy dance after I got back from school last Friday (because doing it in public would mean permanent isolation from everybody I know) and now I'm still sorta happy. It has been such a drag and these past few weeks have been pretty bad. For starters, I lost my blue mechanical pencil on the first day of exams, I didn't even get a chance to bring it to class, I lost it when I was on my way for assembly in the hall. And it was my favourite pencil, at that.

Right, so I went along and lived my life favourite-pencil-less, and at least I had two other ones for me to use during the exams. And I think the next week.. or the week after that week, I lost my other mechanical pencil!!! It was also blue, but the first one was a nicer shade of blue, this one I just had because I got it for free for some reason... but ughhhhhh why

ughhhhhh

So I basically panicked, because I only realised that I lost the other one two minutes before my paper, so I just had to make do with the last mechanical pencil. It's the sort that has two pen colours and one mechanical pencil all in one. My dad bought it from Japan for me and it's in metallic pink and it's pretty and all... but it's pretty much crap when it comes to writing in pencil. The lead breaks every time I write one single letter of the alphabet, and I've been trying to fix it like a million times.

Except it wasn't close to a million, only like half.

So that was the story of how I lost two mechanical pencils in the span of less than three weeks. The funny thing was that my pencils decided to go AWOL right when I needed them the most. (Hear that? That's the sound of my heart breaking)

Oh and another thing that happened was one of my glasses' tail (? is that what people call those sticks that jut out from your glasses that you're supposed to rest on your ears?) kept breaking off from my glasses, with the tiny screw and all, so that was annoying as well. I fixed it though! I fixed it with my mechanical pencil (since I didn't have a screwdriver lying around), I just pushed the lead into the screw to tighten the glasses' tail and then I could wear it again, the first time it happened and after I fixed it, I felt like I just advanced to a whole new level of coolness, and when it happened again, I sorta felt like I had to skip a turn in a board game. It was not a nice feeling.

Anyway, all that's done and over with. Today was quite nice, we did nothing much because most of the teachers were busy marking our papers (dun dun DUNNNN) and basically my friends and I just talked about anything and everything in class.

Oh and after school I got this from Kimmeh!!!!

It's because Mum bought Kim and her parents some food the other day, and it's Kim and her dad's favourite food.. so now I get Toblerone!

And it's huge. If Kim's dad thinks I can finish this off by myself...

He's right.

Holding up

Midterms start this Thursday, and I'm pretty much having a mental breakdown every time I'm left alone to my thoughts. Too... much... pressure and I feel like running somewhere and cutting all my hair (haha that rhymed), but seriously though, I do.

Why do I expect too much of things? I'm always the one hopelessly hoping for things to go well and perfect, and even when I get bad news I'll always hope for a miracle to just happen right at the last moment. This has nothing to do with anything, or maybe it has everything to do with everything. It's been awhile since I actually wrote something here. Wrote, wrote something. I'm just weary of things. Of everything.

Anyway, I'm actually fine, mostly being a typical teenage girl at the moment, hahaha.

Right, well, I just have a lot of things on my mind right now.

This is one of my favourite songs off the Once soundtrack, and I've been in love with Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova ever since I watched the movie a few years ago.

I feel like watching Once again. And then I'd have watched it twice. Haha.

Drama buddies!

So that's a picture of most of us, I'm at the back there being squished, you can see Tasha's hair on the left there, and I'm pretty sure that's Adris' hand on the right. The rest, Ming Huay, Puteri, Ainaa, Preveena, Aishah and Lavenya were in En Azwie's car and in this picture, we were in Puan Anne's car, on the way back to school after the Interschool Drama Competition in SMK Taman Sea.

When we got back, I lost count of how many people asking us how it went, and that was pretty sad 'cause we didn't win! We didn't qualify for finals, only three schools did, congratulations DJ, Assunta and La Salle! You guys were amazing.

Anyway, when we got there we rushed to register and haul all the props out of the car, and then after fixing the cardboard roof for the cardboard building, we found out that the first team was late, and us, being the second team to perform, had to go first.

We did our best, loads of stuff fell backstage and I also accidentally hit Aswad's guitar to the wall when I was carrying it to my side of the stage (I didn't tell him I did, though, so shhhhh). Backstage was a frenzy, I was in charge of managing the left side of the stage, and by the end of it all I was sweating so much, it was disgusting...

We had to cut the play short, unfortunately, and that was after we exceeded (apparently) 20 full minutes, and the play was supposed to be only 20 minutes. It didn't even feel like 40 minutes! I just hoped the audience understood the ending. Our play was a bit longer because there was a bit of a miscommunication thing that went on, Ming, our amazing writer, was told that it could be 30-40 minutes, and just the day before the competition, we found out it had to be only 20 and we cut a few scenes out and we still had to cut the play short on the big day.

I loved being a part of it, everyone was so nice to us yesterday, especially the hosts of Taman Sea. Some of them came up to us just to congratulate us on doing a great job (heheh), they said that we were fantastic and that they loved the play. Such lovely people! And ooh there was some flirting going on too, let's just say that Yang Ler was great at striking up conversations with practically all the girls there hahahaha.

When we got back to school, we kept all our props in Bilik Tanjung, and then most of us went to Starbucks in Uptown to celebrate our success in carrying out the whole (almost) play.

After that, Ming, Lavenya, Aswad, Ainaa and I walked back to school, Lavenya went home, so that left the four of us just chilling in the canteen, and Ming and I were being lazy to go to our respective Uniform Body meetings so all of us just talked a lot, gossiped, and also came up with ideas for another sketch/play we need to perform on Monday, we only found out about that when we got back to school. Ainaa left, and after awhile Ming left to go to her meeting when I was talking to Nit, and then I left to go for Girl Guides and Aswad left for home.

So today we had to stay back after assembly to just discuss about what we're doing on Monday, we had a few ideas but in the end, Puan Anne wanted us to do the oral performance my friends and I did back in English class, that Harry Potter thing. Some of my other friends decided to join us after recess, so we're a bigger group now, which means more fun!

Practice is tomorrow after the cross-country run, and then it's the weekend... and then it's Monday, performance during assembly. Wish us luck!

I discovered I had a bruise while I was telling my friends about how the competition went, most probably from carrying the props, or I think I might've ran into a metal door-grille...

Excuse my tired face
